Go team! NAIOP's annual Real Estate Challenge offers bragging rights to one of three area universities.
Get ready to root for your favorite college team! This isn't football - it's the Tenth Annual NAIOP Real Estate Challenge. This unique competition features teams from the University of Washington, the University of British Columbia, and the University of Alberta; each vying for bragging rights and the prestige associated with the mastery of the event. Students from each university's real estate program will compete from January through late March to create and present a development proposal for a multi-faceted and challenging real-world project.
The 2013 Real Estate Challenge partnered with Vulcan Real Estate on two sites in South Lake Union: Chandler’s Cove and Block 25. With the Mercer Corridor project and the rezone to be completed in 2013, Vulcan is now planning the next phase of development to include Chandlers Cove and Block 25 as the first of the three Mercer blocks. While Chandlers Cove is a good asset for Vulcan, the team feels that it may be time to reposition the property to better reflect the neighborhood that has developed over the last 10 years and to support the nearby development that will be coming. It’s now up to the students to determine how to re-develop the sites.
The challenge culminates in formal presentations before NAIOP members, university representatives, a judging panel of industry leaders and member sponsors before the winning team is announced.
May the best team win!
