NAIOP Gavel Program

For many years now, the Washington Chapter of NAIOP has brought together its diverse members by focusing their individual concerns onto common goals.  As a result, NAIOP has developed into a successful lobbyist for property owners' rights in the regulatory and legislative areas.

NAIOP cannot fund the costs to provide this essential service through the limited revenues generated by its annual local membership dues and program revenues.  To keep NAIOP in the forefront of the political debate, we established "Gavel Membership" designations.  Gavel members consist of a select group of the area's leading real estate companies and those associate firms that service the real estate industry in the areas of law, engineering, design, construction, and finance.

Through a strategic, coordinated effort which utilizes Gavel funds and the Chapter's Government Relations Committee, NAIOP is effectively leveraging the influence of the entire industry in the Legislature and the Executive Branches of state government.  While each fund is used for a different purpose (PAC funds are used for political donations exclusively), the purposes are intended to achieve the same end - to promote and protect the commercial real estate industry.

As a result, NAIOP has successfully established itself as the commercial real estate industry's voice by reacting aggressively to adverse regulations and legislation and promoting its views by drafting new legislation, negotiating regulations at the draft stage, and working with the governor's office to develop new policies to promote business growth.

Gavel members meet quarterly to discuss the direction and policies of NAIOP's Legislative agenda.  These exclusive meetings are designed to inform and to provide an opportunity to meet with other leaders in the industry.

BENEFITS OF GAVEL MEMBERSHIP
  • NAIOP'S lobbyist, Greg Hanon of Communico, will represent NAIOP in the state arena and a local representative will coordinate on local issues with regards to those regulatory agencies that affect the commercial real estate industry.
  • NAIOP will provide Gavel members with a special and confidential state legislative monitoring service.  If there are any bills that you want to monitor personally or professionally, we will send you email updates the same day that any movement on these bills has occurred.
  • Gavel members will receive special custom reports regarding state and federal actions affecting real estate.
  • You will be invited to our quarterly Gavel lunch meetings designed to provide you and your fellow members with a chance to network while hearing a speaker on a topical issue.
  • As a Gavel member, you are invited to attend our monthly Board of Director's meetings where you have an opportunity to guide the political/legislative/policy agenda for our organization, as well as our monthly Government Relations meetings.
  • You will receive monthly reports on the local issues and weekly reports on the state issues, both via email.  You will also receive email alerts on local jurisdiction issues that affect our industry.  You will also receive a yearly recap publication on the successes of NAIOP and the lobbying efforts.
  • We will continually seek to find new ways to be responsive to your needs, just call us!
