NAIOPWA Student Engagement Committee Partners with Alaska Airlines for 2025 Real Estate Challenge
NAIOP Washington State is excited to partner with Alaska Airlines for the 2025 Pacific Northwest Real Estate Challenge, NAIOPWA’s annual development case competition in which Master of Real Estate (MSRE) students take on the role of developer to craft creative and innovative development proposals for a selected project site. At the end of the quarter, student teams will present their proposals to a panel of industry judges who name the Challenge winner and recipient of the coveted Bob Filley Cup.
Platinum Student Engagement sponsor, Alaska Airlines has provided their future development site in Renton, WA, as the subject of this year’s competition. The 3.4-acre site is located south of I-405 adjacent to their Global Training Center within the Longacres Campus. The site and owner requirements offer the students a unique challenge as they explore the highest and best use for the site.
The competition kicked off April 3 with an information session hosted by the Student Engagement Committee. Students were introduced to the project site by Alaska Airlines representative, Teri Sato, and Seneca Group’s Chris Kaloper. Over the next couple months, students will meet with Puget Sound real estate market experts, including architects, general contractors, financial analysts, developers, and investors, as they craft and refine their proposals.
We are honored to continue our partnership with the University of Washington MSRE Program and host this competition for their students. Real Estate Challenge is one of four final capstone experiences available to MSRE students as a requirement for their graduation. 14 students have signed up for the course, making up three competing teams. The Challenge is a unique culminating project for their education, offering students hands-on, real-world experience while connecting them with local professionals, some of whom may one day be their employers or colleagues.
