About NAIOP Washington State's Mentor Program

The NAIOP mentorship program matches up young professionals and students with seasoned industry veterans for informal, monthly meetings to share ideas, discuss professional development, and talk real estate in a casual atmosphere.

One ongoing mentor says:

The advantage of this program for a real estate professional such as me is that I get to interact and network with a broader range of individuals from the real estate and development community. I see mentoring as a means of recruiting talent to our industry and fostering an exchange of perspectives from the next generation of industry professionals.

The time commitment is just an hour per month, and the benefits for both mentors and mentees can be quite substantial. Monthly meetings run January through June, beginning with a kick-off event January 21 and moving on to one-on-one meetings.

  • January: Kick-Off Event | Tuesday, Jan 25 | 4 - 6 p.m.
  • February - May (4 pairings): Monthly one-on-one meetings with an industry expert and leader in the NAIOP community.
  • June: Closing Event | Details TBA

NAIOPWA's mentorship program is an opportunity to build lasting connections in which Developing Leaders may learn professional skills such as executive presence, leadership, management and networking. The mentorship program is not intended as an opportunity to further sales goals or to seek future prospects during one-and-one mentoring interactions.

NAIOP Mentorship Program Testimonials

“Being a mentor is an extremely satisfying way to grow your own network and to find fulfillment in growing young professionals. You find up-and-coming leaders that are extremely motivated to learn about all facets of the commercial real estate industry”.--Michael Cohen (Director, Capital Markets at Madison Marquette)

“Being a mentor for the NAIOP program over the 11 years has enabled me to grow the local talent pool, find new connections, and promote new leaders. Happy to see some of my mentees grow into leadership roles in the industry and within the NAIOP community!”--Kris Beason (Sr Director of Delivery and Construction for Sidewalk Labs)

“NAIOP’s mentor program is a great way to meet the up-and-coming talent in our industry both within and beyond my typical investment and development silo. It is a pleasure to be able to meet compelling new people and learn about their goals, successes and challenges”.--Jonathan Manheim (President for HAL Real Estate)

“Serving as a mentor for the NAIOP Mentorship Program was an incredibly rewarding experience.  I was great to meet younger players in the industry and witness their enthusiasm for CRE.  It’s an amazing networking opportunity for DLs but also informative for mentors.  You gain incredible insight from understanding the perspectives of developing leaders – their goals, interests, motivations and career outlook. This kind of information only makes you a better leader and manager in your work life.”--Serena Sayani (Attorney for Stokes Lawrence, P.S)

“I participated in the mentor/mentee program for two years. It was a great way to meet a diverse group of seasoned professionals, each with unique and helpful perspectives on the real estate industry. Access to this program is one of the most valuable benefits of being a NAIOP member, and there is no good reason for young professionals to miss out on the opportunity.”--Alex Mundy (Director for Broadmark Realty Capital)
